Swap an Inconvenient Tub for a Walk-In Shower
The Board Store Home Improvements has helped homeowners throughout Western Wisconsin and Southeastern Minnesota replace underused tubs with sleek showers for more than 35 years. A tub-to-shower conversion gives you a space that works the way you need it to. Whether your goal is improved safety, easier access, or simply a better-looking bathroom, a professional conversion is a smart solution.
Converting a bathtub to a shower starts with removing the existing tub, addressing the plumbing beneath it, preparing the wet area, and installing the new shower system. Every project that involves plumbing includes a licensed plumber, so you won’t have to coordinate another contractor on your own.
The Board Store stages all materials before work begins so the project moves smoothly once installation starts. The same crew starts and finishes your project, with no handoffs or unnecessary gaps. A tub-to-shower conversion can be completed in as little as one day, though larger bathroom remodeling projects may take up to 5 days depending on the work involved. We schedule around your availability and keep disruption to your normal routine to a minimum.
Create a Custom Shower You’ll Actually Enjoy Using
A tub-to-shower conversion gives you plenty of opportunities for customization. During your in-home design consultation, a professional from The Board Store will walk you through your options, including:
Wall Systems: Finished wall panels that create a clean surround without the maintenance of grout
Low-Threshold Bases: Reduced step-over height for easier, more comfortable entry
Barrier-Free Designs: Zero-threshold options designed for walk-in or roll-in access
Grab Bars: Thoughtfully placed for added stability without making the bathroom feel clinical
Bench Seating: Built-in or fold-down seating for greater comfort and convenience
Shelving and Storage: Integrated storage that keeps everyday shower items within easy reach
ADA-compliant configurations are available by request. During the design process, we consider what your bathroom can accommodate and which features make sense for how you use the space. Wall finishes, tile selections, and hardware options let you personalize the look. We encourage you to view completed projects in our bathroom remodel gallery.

More Than a New Shower: What to Expect After a Tub-to-Shower Conversion
After a tub-to-shower conversion, you’ll seamlessly step into the shower instead of climbing over a high tub wall. The room may feel more open, and getting in and out becomes simpler and more comfortable.
For older adults or anyone planning ahead for changing mobility needs, that difference is significant. A walk-in shower removes one common obstacle and makes better use of the space you already have. The updated look is part of the benefit, but the bigger improvement is a more accessible bathroom that works for your life today, not how the space was designed decades ago.
You may also want to explore walk-in tub options. It's another accessibility-focused option worth understanding before deciding which direction is right for your bathroom.
